CIGNEX Technologies, a leading provider of Open Source Enterprise Content Management (ECM) Solutions, today announced that Presto, a leading digital delivery provider, worked together with CIGNEX to create a content management solution to power its Presto newsstand service.
Presto’s unique digital delivery system is a combination of Presto Service and the HP Printing Mailbox. It allows users to receive email, photos, and articles from a variety of well-known publishers without the need for a computer or an Internet connection. Users can send email just as they regularly do, from their email account, and the Presto Service automatically transforms it into beautiful layouts for printing. The HP Printing Mailbox then prints according to the user’s requested schedule.
To support the seamless, versatile digital delivery system, Presto selected CIGNEX Technologies to help develop the service’s comprehensive content management infrastructure. Partnering with Presto, CIGNEX delivered a complete open source solution for acquiring, categorizing, formatting and managing information. CIGNEX developed Presto CMS on top of Alfresco, an open source enterprise content management platform. Alfresco provides a fast and a highly scalable repository, search engine, and various customizable services. The architecture supports high availability, high performance, and replication support across multiple servers. A more detailed case study can be found at www.cignex.com.
Nothing irks a non-tech savvy person so much as an “opportunity” to manage his website him- or herself: creating each page individually from a template, copying the file to the FTP server, placing links from other pages manually and what not.
That’s what keeps content management systems alive: they make the whole process of building and managing website easy for a non-developer type of person. In this post, you can learn how to choose the right content management for yourself and your website.
What is a content management system?
A content management system is the web software that lets you create a website without knowing any web programming skills, such as HTML, CSS, PHP, MySQL and such. Instead, you can put up a website by simply pasting your post/article from the Notepad and pressing the “Publish” button.
Normally, CMSs have their own structure, such as blogs (blogging software), forums (forum software) and general content management systems, such as Joomla, etc. However, there are other systems that let you create your own site structure and layout, such as Drupal.
Before we go into picking the system, you need to define what you need before doing anything.

GoDaddy.com® is giving back to the Internet community by supporting open source applications with cash donations of $10,000 each.
Joomla, a Content Management System and Simple Machines Forum, an online community forum, received the donations from GoDaddy.com to assist in further development of their applications.
"We are delighted that Go Daddy decided to donate to an open source project like Joomla," said Shayne Bartlett of Joomla.org. "It's refreshing to see a big tech company supporting Joomla's ambitions. Donations like Go Daddy's go a long way to covering resource costs and our continued success."
The open source community is founded on developers sharing code for the enhancement and further development of various applications. The projects are free to use. Anyone with the ability to program can customize or create new features for the product. Typically, open source projects are funded solely by donations from those who use or support the product. These initiatives need funding for everything from hardware purchases and testing to communication and development.
Increase product volumes. Get products to market faster. Manage product quality and consistency on a global scale. The mandates of 21st century manufacturing are burdening manufacturers with an exponentially growing demand for corresponding product information. To meet that demand, more global organizations are viewing a content management system (CMS) as the way to quickly realize reduced time and costs associated with product documentation. In particular, manufacturers recognize that a CMS that supports content reuse delivers efficiencies throughout the organization, and that effective change management planning at the forefront is key to ensuring these benefits are realized.
Driving efficiencies in dynamic publishing, Astoria Software today revealed findings surrounding the adoption of content management systems as evidenced in a poll conducted during a recent Webinar titled, “Where Do We Go from Here? A Roadmap to CMS Success.” The Webinar featured guest speakers Mary Laplante, principal at The Gilbane Group, an information analyst and consulting organization, and Chip Gettinger, vice president, services and sales support for Astoria Software.
Throughout the event, the audience of over 140 C-level executives, information architects, product management directors, developers, documentation specialists and technical writers were polled on:
Alexandria, VA – April 17, 2007— - According to recent calculations, more than 6,000 projects are running on Bitrix Site Manager . Increasing number of installations, robust features, system security, and comprehensive documentation - these are the key points that brought our clients to choose Bitrix Site Manager CMS for their projects.
These 6,000 commercial licenses have been sold since 2001. It should be noted that, since a one-product license includes the authorization to manage two websites, and considering the existence of multisite licenses, the number of websites running on Bitrix Site Manager is actually higher.
The product integrations were mostly done by the Bitrix partners. The Bitrix partner network is spread worldwide and includes more than 1,200 companies in the US, Europe, Africa, and Asia. These companies are ready to provide professional web development services from design creation to site search optimization and maintenance.

I've been on the hunt for a good open source content management system (CMS) – something that is both easy to set up and use, and yet offers good customisation. I don't want my site to look like every other blog in the world.
I'd been hearing the rave reports of Drupal for some time. The Drupal project has a long history, starting life as a bulletin board system by founder Dries Buytaert. Today it finds itself hosting the likes of The Onion, Moby's web site, MTV.co.uk and Ubuntu's site.
What's particularly interesting about Drupal is its claims to be more than just another blogger CMS. You could in theory roll it out for just about any kind of web site, although CMSs tend to favour content- rather than design-rich websites. I needed a CMS for a news site, and Drupal looked like it would fit the profile perfectly.
Presentation to Showcase Content Management Do’s and Don’ts at the CM Strategies Conference in Boston
Vasont Systems, a leading provider of content management software and data services, today announced that Sue Wear, Knowledge Infrastructure Lead for GE Healthcare, and Suzanne Mescan, Vice President of Marketing for Vasont Systems, will present, “The Yellow Brick Road to Content Management Success: Tips for Building Your Content Management Strategy” on March 26, 2007 at 4:00 pm ET at the CM Strategies Conference. This year’s conference will take place at the Fairmont Copley Plaza in Boston, MA.
How do you get off to the right start in creating your content management strategy and then ensure that you continue moving in the right direction? How do you estimate ROI and measure it over time? How do you determine what content management tools are right for you now and into the future? How do you prepare the writing team and organization for this change and ensure their buy-in and success over time? Oh, so many questions.
It’s time for some answers! Listen as GE Healthcare and Vasont Systems discuss the steps and lessons learned around creating and maintaining a successful content management strategy.
Government agencies are no strangers to open-source operating systems and applications, but that’s not to say they are completely comfortable with nonproprietary software. Some open-source packages, such as Apache Web server, are enormously popular governmentwide, while others are more specialized and serve specific agency needs.
However, as the saying goes, it’s not who you are, but who you know. Open-source systems may be gaining credibility in government circles because they are increasingly associated with large, well-respected suppliers such as IBM, Novell, Sun Microsystems and Unisys.
“When we see big-name vendors and large systems integrators offering and supporting open systems when historically they made their money from proprietary systems, we have to take notice,” said Charles Riechers, principal deputy assistant secretary for acquisition at the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force. “They wouldn’t be moving in that direction if open source didn’t make sense for their businesses, and therefore it makes sense for us.”
